Student email of the day.

"I was in your office yu wasn't there when do yu want me come to give you my doctor note"

That's it-- no name, no punctuation, and no indication of what class he/she is in.

Is it really that old-fashioned of me to expect my students to treat an email to their professor differently than a text to their friends?

I get emails like this daily.

  1. No, you're not old fashioned. One of my fellow TAs took an email like this and sent it back to the student with corrections. As in:

    Dear X student,
In the future, wording your email in the following way will demonstrate a more appropriate level of respect to your teachers:

    Dear Professor B,
I am a student in Y class and would like to give you a doctor's note for my absence on Z date. How would it be best to turn this note in to you?

    Sincerely,
    X student
